Dear Qi-Friends,

IÕm writing to tell you about the amazing improvement in my eyesight as a result of my Qigong practice and recent participation in Master WuÕs Qigong Eyesight Improvement Retreat.

It all started last August when I noticed that I wasnÕt seeing clearly with my reading glasses. I thought my eyesight was getting worse, so I decided to get my eyes checked. My Qigong friend Karen Fong recommended her optometrist, Dr. Terry Hohner, who just happened to be located in my neighborhood and was interested in alternative ways of improving eyesight. He examined my eyes and found that my eyesight had improved 50% since my last exam a few of years earlier. What a surprise to learn that my glasses werenÕt working because my eyes had improved so much!

I can only attribute this great improvement to my Qigong practice. I have been studying Qigong with Master Wu since 2001 and was in his first National Qigong Training (NQT) group (2002-2005). Of the 12 students in the first NQT group, most of us experienced significant improvements in our health and at least 5 of us experienced improvements in our eyesight during the three-year program. Middle-aged eyes donÕt generally improve over time, quite the opposite in fact, so this was exciting and intriguing. I approached Master Wu about doing a pilot study to see if we could measure how much eyesight improvement might be gained during an intensive Qigong retreat aimed specifically at the eyes. The study was set up to include an eye exam before the retreat and one or two follow-up exams at 6 and 12 months to measure long-term results.

The Qigong Eyesight Improvement Retreat was held last week, May 26th through June 1st at The Cedars Retreat Center near Portland. Most of the participants had eye exams from Dr. Hohner on May 26th before the retreat started. Since IÕd had an eye exam 9 months earlier, Master Wu and Dr. Hohner felt it wasnÕt necessary to check my eyes again. During the retreat, Master Wu taught us the Three Sources and Five-Element Qigong forms as well as a number of Qigong practices and healing techniques specifically for the eyes. As most of you know, incredible things happen when you study and practice Chinese Shamanic Qigong with Master Wu. For instance, we practiced the Immortals Sitting Holding Breath Practice to increase Fire. Then while holding the center position and connecting with Heaven and Earth during the Five-Element Form, my middle Dantian was suddenly engulfed in intensely hot spiritual fire that started at my heart and quickly filled my chest and shoulders and burned my ears. I think this healing of the heart was necessary for the healing of my eyes that followed and I am deeply grateful to Master Wu for sharing his Buddha Heart and healing powers.

The day before the retreat was to end, Master Wu asked me to make an appointment with Dr. Hohner for an eye exam and to have some of the other students do the same. Thanks to a last-minute cancellation, Dr. Hohner was able to take three of us. The results are astonishing. I have had a 25% reduction in myopia (nearsightedness) in my right eye and improved near vision focus by 20% in my left eye. Dr. Hohner said the latter improve is most unusual and that it is almost never seen because it requires a change in the shape of the eye. I can now read without my reading glasses. Motoe Wada has had an astounding 66% reduction in myopia in her right eye and 15% improved visual acuity in her left eye. Vicky Welch had a 20% reduction of farsightedness in her right eye and a 10% reduction in her left eye. According to Dr. Hohner, people frequently do eye exercises for a year and maybe get 10% improvement if they are lucky. Vicky also had a 25% reduction in astigmatism in each eye, which is significant because Dr. Hohner tells us itÕs very hard to do anything about astigmatism. It doesnÕt usually change.

I am looking forward to getting more information about the improvements other participants are experiencing as a result of participating in Master WuÕs Qigong Eyesight Improvement Retreat and their Qigong practice. We are all keeping a log of the practices we are doing. I may write an article about our experiences and eyesight improvements so that others may benefit. I hope that sharing my own experience and those of Motoe and Vicky will inspire your cultivation as much as it has mine. Much gratitude to Master Wu for his profound cultivation and knowledge and his willingness to teach us.
